How will Guyanese vote on November 28, the day when hundreds of thousands of people across the Caribbean nation cast their ballots for a President and parliament in Georgetown?
For President, the choice is either Donald Ramotar, the standard-bearer of the People’s Progressive Party Civic, an Indo Guyanese, or David Granger, a highly respected Afro-Guyanese retired military officer who is the presidential candidate of  “A Partnership for National Unity,” APNU, a coalition of opposition parties, including the People’s National Congress, fighting to unseat the deeply entrenched PPPC.

Ease for Caribbean Immigrant Facing Deportation

“This is the Barack Obama I have been waiting for.”
Like many of his Congressional colleagues from New York, U.S. Representative Luis Gutierrez, a Democrat of Illinois, one of the most vocal immigration advocates on Capitol was reacting to the decision by the White House in Washington to soften its tough immigrant deportation stance. It’s a significant shift in policy that would thousands of people from the Caribbean, Latin America and elsewhere the green light to remain in the country despite the fact that they may be undocumented immigrants facing deportation.

Although some Jamaicans at home and abroad may wonder if Andrew Holness, a youthful cabinet minister, is the right person to become their country’s next leader, the one thing they agree on is that the ruling Labor Party deserves top marks for the smooth way it has chosen Bruce Golding’s successor.
From ardent JLP supporters in the United States to some of its strong critics, the reaction was the same: the JLP has done well by selecting a Prime Minister without public rancor and political blood-letting that could set back the island as it pursues a path towards economic stability.

Golding Hints at Early Exit, Holness Likely Succssor
Only two weeks after Prime Minister Bruce Golding surprised the nation by announcing that he was stepping down as the leader of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and ultimately Prime Minister, it appears that his likely successor, Andrew Holness could take over before the party’s annual conference in November. Golding himself has given indication that he intends stepping down before November.“The person who is expected to succeed me in a matter of days has provided very strong leadership in transforming our education process, but that is not something that can be done in any short time span,” he told reporters.

New Haitian Prime Minister Brings Hope

Hope! That’s the word on many people’s lips, especially Haitians in and out of the Caribbean country and its large Diaspora in North America as Dr. Garry Conille becomes the Haiti’s new Prime Minister.
And the idea of generating hope is being articulated by the 45 year-old gynecologist himself whose nomination by President Michel Martelly to head the government was approved by the Senate which had rejected two previous candidates put forward to the upper chamber by the country’s head of state.
