West Indian Parade Draws More than 20,000 to Downtown Hartford
Indian Parade and Carnival drew more than 20,000 people to Hartford’s downtown. Local residents, businesses, and community groups joined together to celebrate West Indian Independence with cultural artistry.
The event included a carnival held in Bushnell Park featuring colorful floats, traditional costumes and music, as well as Caribbean cuisine from local vendors. Musical performers from the West Indies performed reggae, calypso and Soca arrangements. Read more...

The Power of Green at Prospect Park
Going bird watching for the first time; discovering a waterfall deep within Brooklyn’s only forest; learning how 18th century farmers coaxed bountiful crops from the land: last year more than 125,000 people enjoyed free nature and education programs at 585-acre Prospect Park, thanks in great part to support from Con Edison.
2011 is the second year of a four year commitment by Con Edison to support the work of the Prospect Park Alliance, including a comprehensive calendar of public programs at the Prospect Park Audubon Center and Lefferts Historic House, both of which re-open to the public after a short winter hiatus on February 5. Arts Advocacy Day
HARLEM Arts Alliance (HAA) will travel to the State Building in Albany, New York with local artists, organizations and supporters to meet and voice their concerns to State representatives. As a part of this state-wide day of arts advocacy, a bus will depart on Tuesday, February 8 at 6:45 a.m. from Adam Clayton Powell Jr.
State Office Building (163 West 125th Street at Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Boulevard /7th Avenue, New York, NY 10027) and take constituents to Albany. Round-trip bus transportation is $15 for the general public and $10 for HARLEM Arts Alliance members and NYC Arts Coalition members.
