In any federal public trial in the United States, citizens of the Republic have the right to access and download verbatim transcripts.  The entire trial of drug kingpins is available in the government database including trials of previously tried and convicted drug kingpins in Jamaica. All of these trials have taken place in the United States.  That reflects poorly on the criminal justice system in Jamaica.The criminal justice system in Jamaica is like the West Indies Cricket team, everyone uses it as a beating stick.

Broken Windows in Cameron’s Kingdom

The riots of the summer of 2011 have subsided.  It is now the task of the Prime Minister, David Cameron, to put humpty-dumpty together again.  The Prime Minister gave a three-hour speech in the British Parliament denouncing the criminality that led to the temporary crumbling of the British social order.

Since taking over the reins of the British Conservative Party, Cameron has been making the case for the strengthening of community.  In the aftermath of the riots, he declared Britain a broken society.  He declared open season on criminal gangs and made it clear that the government would deal harshly with those who had run rampant and destroyed property. Read more...

Standard and Poor on August 5, 2011 downgraded the United States bond rating from triple A to double A+ for the first time in United States history.  At the beginning of the twentieth century, the U.S.A. superseded Britain as the dominant economy in the world system.  After World War 1, Britain became a debtor nation.  After World War 11, America was the world’s financier and the Marshall Plan was instrumental in the resuscitation of European economies ravished by war.  As we enter the second decade of the twenty-first century, the United States finds itself as a debtor nation and the Chinese have emerged as the leading creditor nation in the world.  The twentieth century was the American century.  The twenty-first is looking more like it will become the Chinese century. Read more...

The Making of Independent Jamaica

On August 6, 2011, Jamaica celebrated 49 years of independence. We exist in a world experiencing great turmoil. There were riots in Britain over the weekend.  Demonstrators have poured into the streets of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem protesting the high cost of housing and falling living standards.  The citizens of Syria have risen up against dictatorship and despite the blood that has been shed, Syrians have been resolute in bringing democracy to their habitat.
