ADIFF and Columbia Teacher’s College Celebrates 20 Years of African Cinema This Weekend

Screen shot from film, Come Back Africa

By: Patricia Trutescu

Starting today, Friday July 27 and throughout the weekend, the African Diaspora International Film Festival will showcase a selection of African films by classic filmmakers whose work still resonate in the TC Series. This series will celebrate 20 years of African films, featuring film screenings and speakers from various African countries.

“Shadow and Act” the blog on indiewire.com talks a bit about the films in this showcase. One film that the blog recommends is Uncommon Woman. The story revolves around a woman who decides to take a second husband as she can no longer put up with her current husband’s adultery. Additional films included in this festival are Daratt/Dry Season by Mahamat-Saleh Haroun and The Other World by Algerian filmmaker Merzak Allouach.

Those living in New York City can see this impressive series at Columbia’s Teacher’s College. For ticketing information, click here. Tickets for general admissions are $11.
