Caribbean fashion will be on display during the Olympic Games in London, although not on the schedule for the main events, a showcase of Caribbean fashion designers will be on display at Grosvenor House Hotel on Saturday August 4, in London. The showing will be a part of `Fashion Engage' which is in conjunction with a series of events sponsored by the Caribbean Export Development Agency aka Caribbean Export.
The select group of Caribbean designers were handpicked from the region to showcase their garments to an audience of expected European buyers, fashionestas, stylists, fashion press and celebrities who will make up the select audience to view this exclusive presentation. The fashion showcase series, will serve as the Grosvenor's Caribbean presence and its affiliation with the African Caribbean Business Expo in London.
The event follows an important showcase of Caribbean fashions during London Fashion Week in February 2012. Seven talented Caribbean fashion designers are expected to showcase their work and exhibit the region's flourishing fashion industry. From Trinidad & Tobago, designer MEILING, who has worked closely on a number of successful projects with Emmy Award winning costume designer Peter Minshall, and has authored a book on her life in fashion `Meiling - Fashion Designer' will be showcased. PHELICIA DELL of Haiti will also be on board. Her collection of rare handbags were chosen by top designer Dianne Von Furstenberg to be sold across the globe in her chain of stores.
Jamaican designer ARLENE MARTIN whose designs go under the label `Attitudes' and shown during Caribbean Fashion Week in Jamaica will also present her creations in London. Arlene is a former back-up singer with the famous Caribbean band: Byron Lee and the Dragonaires. Haitian designer DAVID ANDRE' whose natural creations continue to put Haiti on the map is listed to showcase his environmentally friendly collection. SONIA NOEL from Guyana whose clothes has been featured in China and recently hosted the Guyana Model Search will showcase her colorful collection. From Suriname, the luxury jewelry brand ATELIER DORE' will be featured as well as Trinidadian jewelry designer KIRIE BAIN will be heading for the London fashion showcase
