The Harlem Fashion Initiative hosted the annual fashion show as part of
Harlem Week's `A Great Day In Harlem Festival.' The fashionestas
descended upon Grant's Tomb on Riverside Drive and paraded around the
Plaza in some of the hottest fashions and accessories created by a
variety of cutting-edge designers. Actor Grizz Chapman, star of NBC's
30 Rock and on-air radio personality Shaila, from 107.5 WBLS-FM hosted
the fashion segment which included the latest creations from designers
including; Deborah Williams, Fabric Twins, Gadol Wilson and Edwina
Gregg. The presentation also included a sneak presentation of the
National Park Service Forest Rangers new uniforms.

A VARIETY OF STYLES
Newark designer Douglas Says paid homage to the Land of Liberty with a
patriotic inspired collection titled "The President's Wife." His red,
white and blue motifs included evening gowns, jumpsuits, cocktail
dresses, pant suits and swimwear that captured the essence of his
creations with style and grace. Designer Rodney Rogers received
heartfelt approval from every bride-to-be with his display of
traditional and stylistic wedding gowns. Designer Sophistafunk
displayed a selection of bold theatrical creations that encompassed
everything from Southern Plantations, Asian Boardrooms and French
Castles.
His haunting creations were meticulously layered, draped and
accessorized to allude to times long gone, but never forgotten.

UNIQUELY CRAFTED DESIGNS
Other presenting designers were; Clarence Black, who paid tribute to
the International stylized woman who crave for garments that are unique
and masterfully tailored. New Jersey menswear designer Duane Fish, a
staple at Harlem Week Fashion shows, presented a modern menswear
collection that included fashionable hoodies and shirts, featuring
geometric
shapes and prints. Yvette Petty of Harlem's Heaven displayed a variety
of dramatic crowns and stylish hats.

HARLEM WEEK FESTIVITIES
The celebration of Harlem Week kicked off with a lavish reception on
the lawns of Gracie Mansion, home of the Mayor of New York City, Hon.
Michael Bloomberg, who welcomed guests and officially started the month
long `Harlem Week' festivities. Other activities during this annual
celebration include; the Upper Manhattan Auto Show, the New York City
Economic Development Day Seminar, the Historic Black College Fair &
