COUNCIL MEMBER WILLIAMS' STATEMENT REGARDING PRESIDENT OBAMA'S ACCEPTANCE SPEECH AT THE DNC
Print

CHARLOTTE, NC, September 7, 2012: Council Member Jumaane D. Williams (D-Brooklyn) released the following statement in response to President Barack Obama's speech accepting the nomination for re-election at the Democratic National Convention. Council Member Williams was in attendance at the Time Warner Cable Arena last night for his remarks.

"I am proud to support President Obama for re-election, and even prouder after hearing a clear communication of his accomplishments and his plan for our country's future. Just like he did in Denver four years ago, I heard an acceptance speech tonight that provided realistic inspiration. His campaign of shared responsibility and greater opportunity represents a stark contrast to the Republican alternative that threatens to return us to the worst days of the Bush presidency. President Obama has kept our nation safe, grown our economy out of the brink of depression and pursued bold progressive policies to make the United States a nation that supports all of its citizens. From his staunch commitment of our DREAMers to his support of early childhood education, from his continuing pledge towards create jobs for our veterans to his vow to protect the middle class, our president gave an honest assessment of where we are, where we need to go and why he is still the person to take us there. Republicans in Congress have actively and shamelesslyschemed to obstruct his leadership, and as a result they have ground Washington to a standstill. Our taxpayers deserve far better from their government, which is why I urge everyone to elect the clear path forward. I urge everyone to elect President Barack Obama."
